Ever felt like being a brand new you? Someone more pristine, someone who’s everyone’s favourite, someone who’s a better version of you, a more, let’s say, perfect version of you? If I told you to start listing things you like about yourself, how many would you write? I would probably start scratching my head after three or four. But if I was told to write things I didn’t like about myself, the list would go on and on. I don’t like my curly hair, I’m too short, I’m definitely not the best singer, I don’t like the shape of my left toe and so on and so forth. And that’s when it hit me! Why was I trying to be flawless? Why was I trying to achieve perfection when I know it was not possible? And it’s surprising how one three letter word can make you question everything.
why?
Are you trying to impress someone in particular? Or maybe you’re working towards ten thousand Instagram followers. Or probably you’re just doing it so that you can be a part of that gang you always admired from a far. Whatever the reason may be, there’s just one similarity, it has to all the other reasons you could have. It’s for someone else. You don’t have to change yourself only so people look at you differently or only so you can fit into the coolest group in your year. You can just be who you really are, because you like who you are. You shouldn’t have to change for anybody. Ever. And that extra fat from sitting at home all day or those mismatched pair of socks or even those crazy things you’re always up to shouldn’t bother anyone else if they don’t bother you. Ask yourself, what you really want and do it without any hesitation because its something that involves you and no one other than you have the right to question it. Just as someone put it, an original is always worth more than a copy, so just be yourself, and be happy about it.
